STEM - Robot Programming in Room 13!

Today we have been busy programming our Sphero robots to move around the cones and return to us (lights and sounds optional). It was a challenging task and also rewarding to see the robots successfully navigate the course. Well done teams!

Edison Robots in Room 13!

The Edison Robots have arrived in Room 13! Today we unpacked the Edison robots and started learning how to programme them! It will be interesting to see and try out the programmes written during the holidays in Term 4.

Maori Language Week Activity

On the Friday of Maori Language week students combined a technology challenge with Maori Language to help promote the use Maori Language. Students were asked to draw and design a scene that could be used to review Maori Language. The challenge was that students had to incorporate the materials and packaging from Chromebook boxes. They were also asked to research and include Maori words for key features in their displays. It was interesting to how see how their designs took shape during construction phase and how various materials were used in the scenes that were created.

Class Assembly - Mindfulness

Mindfulness Session

Today was our last Mindfulness session with Mrs Mercado. We have enjoyed finding out about mindful breathing and listening. The students also enjoyed the mindful eating activity and using their senses more when eating. Room 13 intends to continue using the Mindfulness techniques and we would like to thank Mrs Mercado for working with our class and the rest of the senior syndicate.

Great Kiwi Science, English and Mathematics Competition 2017!

This week has been a busy week for students competing in the Great Kiwi Competition. Registered students complete the online test in any or all of the following curriculum areas - Science, English and Mathematics. It will be interesting to see what the results are like with this new challenge from the University of Canterbury.

Window Poem

I see the blue sky and pure white clouds. I see the top of the fresh, green, crisp leafy trees slightly moving in the small breeze. I see the top of the the rock climbing wall with plenty of faded, oddly shaped foot holds. I see the bottom of the rock climbing wall with lots of bark at the floor of the playground, and the rough tree trunks. I see the strong, sturdy concrete path and the grass, wet with dew around it.

It’s Ben’s birthday so I woke up got dressed and started the day with going to Jump.We went straight to dodgeball. My dad stayed at dodgeball the whole time. Ben and I went to the foam pit. We did a lot of flips as my sister Tash and her friend Claudia. When we were there we saw Sam and Rob from the holiday programme.

Then my mum and I went to get pizza , I got a cheese pizza.  Later we went to park we played so games like tag. When we got home we opened presents, I got him his white soccer ball. After opening the presents we went in the pool and played some games and jumped in. Eventually everyone left, so I just went on my laptop played Minecraft, watched some videos, and that's how I finished off an exciting day.

Valentine's Day Numbers!

It's Valentine's Day! February the 14th. In Room 13 maths we found some number facts about Valentines Day. Some of the facts are very shocking such as $1 billion dollars of chocolate is sold for Valentine's Day in the U.S!

Swimming Session!

It was great to see Room 13 in the pool today and giving it their best effort! Remember we have swimming sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, so remember to bring your togs on those days!
